Answers to frequently asked questions relating to age restrictions
In this chapter we will cover the frequently asked questions relating to age restrictions.
The Government makes such recommendations in the current consultation document.
The JCCP considers that is appropriate (in the interests of public protection and consumer safety) to limit certain other procedures to over 18’s. This remains a matter for further consideration by the DHSC.
It is our understanding that applications for a license will be from adults aged over 18.
We consider that it is essential to implement a process of transparent and accountable practice, with evidence available through audit and appropriate signposting in place in the event of illegal activity or other public safety concerns.
Routes for reporting such practices are likely to be diverse, given the range of concerns and the regulations that apply to them, however the local authority environmental health officer responsible for issuing the license will likely act as a designated responsible officer. We continue to advise that all complications should be reported to the MHRA as this will not only assist patient safety but also help inform the ongoing development of the sector. The JCCP has recommended that there should be a national database of license holders and that, where appropriate, a named prescriber should be attached to each license.
